How'd we do?
Well lemme just say this: we finished (with a few tears)!
It was HOT! There was a warm breeze around the lake, but we were in full sun for a lot of the race.
See these smiling people? Ignorance is bliss.
The little lady behind us may look unassuming, but she was fierce. SmithCale was mad I let her beat us.
After 9.3 miles , a stretch was most definitely needed.
We were so glad to be done, that we didn't even think about prizes or medals. To be honest: we'd forgotten.
Then we found out that we were going to take some home!
2nd in his age group!
1st of the Athenas!
SmithCale enjoying a hard earned lunch at Genghis Grill sporting our new shirts (we were twinkies!)
That smile says victory!
A few lessons learned:
- I need longer shorts so that they don't turn into running panties.
- Was reassured that I have the most caring partner in SmithCale, because towards the end of the race I had slowed a bit behind. He turned around and there were a few ladies between us. I told him to go on without me, but he said," I want to finish together!" and came back. (the ladies fawned over him at the finish line.)
- Knowing your limits in this brutal summer heat.
